Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows Review

It hurts me when some thing that I loved so much when I was little is destroyed so easily and that's just what Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows does.

The entire time you play the game you feel like you're fighting, but not Foot ninja, or Mousers.  No you're fighting the controls, the camera, the the urge to harm yourself from the poor voice acting and terrible "comic strip" cut scenes.

The controls never seem to work when you really need them to. You spend your time building up a combo to let loose some sort of super move, the only problem is I find my self jamming on the controls to get the super move to work in which time I'm getting my shell pounded in by the surrounding enemies.  The camera seems to always be spinning around and around and while I can move it where I want it with the right stick, right after it will go off on it's own again. Usually I can get over a camera that's a little wild but this time it's so bad I just couldn't

The voice acting sounds horrible. With the popularity of TMNT over the years in not just comics but in cartoons as well you would think they could find some voice actors that could act.  The voice acting sounded forced, like something out of one of those really old B movies. The comic strip style cut scenes weren't much better. If anything they were worse.  They looked like they got some kid to make them in a Microsoft Paint or something.  Again with TMNT being such a big comic why not hire the actual artists to do the little comics scenes for you? For the matter get any artist to do the comic style scenes for you.

The game does have it's good points though. The actual in game graphics actually look nice and if you forget about the special moves the controls work... ok. While the story mode is mediocre I've actually found that I've been having some fun doing the challenge maps where you fight off wave after wave of enemies.

If you love the turtles pick the game up... when it's on sale..... I mean a really really good sale. If you don't know anything about the turtles and just want to get a 3rd person action, beat em up, I'd save my money.
